PREPARING FOR WINTER

With colder temperatures finally reaching Texas it's time to start preparing for winter freezes.  Following the list below will help you be more prepared for when temperatures drop.

  • Keep garage doors closed;
  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinets to allow warmer air to circulate around exposed plumbing, please be sure to remove any harmful chemicals that may be in reach of children or pets;
  • Let the water drip from the cold side of the faucet, even a trickle can prevent pipes from freezing;
  • Insulate any exposed pipes or hose bibs,  be sure to check crawl spaces and attics for exposed pipes.

Most supplies for insulating pipes can be purchased at your local hardware store. With these few tips you could save yourself costly water bills from pipes bursting during freezes.
